Our school wins an Award of Excellence
on Patent in China
Website news (Correspondent: Yin Na) Recently the 16th China patent awards are announced, and our school's patent Method and Device for Triggering Two of Three Capacitor Switching in Zero Transition Process ( Patent No.: ZL 09354.7 97 1) wins the Award of Excellence, the only patent award won by universities of Hubei Province.
The patent is a service invention by Li Xiaoming, professor of School of Electrical Engineering. In 2006, he transfers the patent and later a national standard is formed: Low-voltage Dynamic Reactive Power Compensation Device in Zero Transition Process (GB/T25839-2010). This standard is released on December 23, 2010 and implemented on May 1, 2011, and also our school’s first patent forming national standard.
The patented technology solves a world problem: the traditional capacitor's residual charge will produce overcurrent and overvoltage, affecting the safety of power supply system and lifecycle of electrical installations. Its control technology is of the world-leading level. In recent years, the patented product has seen its application in industries such as shipbuilding, automobile, printing, electric power, railway, metallurgy, and chemical engineering and building materials in 13 provinces (municipalities). It is also well received by users of Thailand market.
The patented product is identified by Wuhan Municipal Government as "innovative products of Wuhan", and is included in the recommended directory of advanced and practical technology and energy-saving technologies and new products in Hubei Province. Besides, it is elected to the 2014 local standards of Hubei Province-Design Guide on Typical Configuration of Reactive Power Compensation (for approval), as well as the standard of enterprises of Hubei electric power company- Code for Design of New Residential Power Supply & Distribution Facilities(Q/GDW15 001-2014-10501).
According to the person in charge of Development Research Institute in charge of Institute on Development of Science and Technology, it is not an easy job to convert university patents to real products and produce social and economic benefits, not to mention that the patent is even declared as national standards. Professor Li insisted on the study for more than 10 years, and has finally obtained remarkable economic and social benefits.
It is reported that there are altogether 20 gold award projects, 5 gold awards in industrial design, 408 excellent awards in patents, and 64 excellence awards in industrial design.
