Website news (Reporter: Yan Hang) Ministry of Education recently announced 2014 Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Awards (Science & Technology). Four research programs of Wuhan University received this award, two first prizes and two second prizes. 

The program titled Signal Transduction Mechanism of Anti-viral Innate Immunity led by Shu Hongbing, academician of College of Life Sciences, and the program titled Theory and Method for Collaborative Intelligent Service of Earth Observation Sensor Web led by Prof. Chen Nengcheng, State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing won the first prize in natural science. Both are independent programs of Wuhan University. 

The program titled Research of Large Deviation Theory in Stochastic Process and Statistics led by Prof. Gao Fuqing, School of Mathematics and Statistics won the second prize in natural science; the program titled Water and Sediment Dynamic Mechanism and Process Simulation at Different Scales led by Prof. Xia Junqiang, School of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering won the second prize for scientific and technological advancement. Wuhan University is the first to finish these programs. 

The Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award (Science & Technology) includes five types: Natural Science Award, Technological Invention Award, Scientific and Technological Advancement Award, Scientific and Technological Advancement Award (for Popularization) and Patent Award. They are designed respectively to encourage and award the discoveries in basic research of natural science and its application, findings that elucidate natural phenomena, characteristics and laws, scientific and technological achievements made by using the laws of nature, the research findings in application technology of natural sciences, and the scientific and technological achievements that have brought remarkable benefits resulting from the pioneering use of patent technologies. The Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award is held every year and geared to all higher educations throughout the country.
