11 disciplines in our school step into international level

Website news (Correspondent: He Wen) According to the updated data of ESI (Essential Science Indicators) in November 2014, our school's geosciences ranks top 1% in global discipline rankings. At present, 11 disciplines of our school rank among top 1% of ESI, ranking 8th in universities of mainland China.

Statistics show that there are 544 institutions whose geosciences rank top 1% in ESI, and our school ranks 536th, ranking 12th in mainland universities. From January 1, 2004 to August 31, 2014, a total of 1074 papers have been published in the academic journal on this subject, of which a total of 4481 citations and the citations per paper value is 4.17.

Of the 11 disciplines among the top 1% in ESI: chemistry is among the top 1 ‰; materials science, clinical medicine, engineering sciences, biology and biochemistry is among top 5‰; botany & zoology, pharmacology & toxicology, physics, agricultural science, environmental science, ecology and geosciences is among top 1%.

ESI is a basic tool for measuring the performance of scientific research and tracking trends in scientific development introduced by Institute for Scientific Information. Based on statistical analysis on countries, research institutions, journals, theses and scientists, it ranks the total number of citations (key indicator) in the published articles in 22 disciplines by global institutions of the past decade. Discipline ranking top 1% of ESI is generally regarded as an international high-level discipline.
